CHARACTERISTICS OF IBL
BENEFITS FOR USING IT IN CLASS

Inquiry based learning is used when the teacher wants his students create their own learning. So, Inquiry Based Learning usually involves students in their own learning. It is an useful tool in which students have to ask questions and based on that they are going to find different ways in which they can create their own learning in the classroom.

Inquiry based learning implies procedures in which students can reach a final product in the learning process.

The role of the students is basically that they need to create their own learning. In order to do this, they must ask questions.

So, they need to be engaged in the learning process so that they can create new knowledge as they gather a lot of information. In that way, they can discuss and reflect on the new knowledge in order to share it with the rest of the group in the class.

For Inquiry based learning the teacher just acts as the facilitator on the student´s learning. He is not going to provide all the information that the students want to know.

Although the teacher does not provide the information, he is going to be part of the learning process. He is going to move in the classroom in order to observe the work of the students.

Moreover, the teacher needs to plan the learning units in which students can focus on and create a good understanding.

One of the important characteristic of Inquiry based learning is that students engage in the learning process.
This is a big responsibility for the students because they have to be focused on what they are going to do.

Another characteristic is that Inquiry based learning develops curiosity on the students. In that way, they explore new thing that they did not know. So, students can develop new skills with the help of inquiry based learning.

Also, students take the lead on their learning. They work through their abilities and then they share the information with the world.

A benefit is that the students can work individually and create their learning and there is not necessity that the teacher provides all the information from a book or something like that.

Also, the students can choose the research method they want in order to construct their own understanding and transmit it to others.

WARM-UP ACTIVITY

Having a warm-up in the class is really important because it helps students to have a positive atmosphere to practice and experiment the language they are learning. Also, a warm- up is necessary to refresh the mind of the students in order to know if they learned or if they remember something about the class which was given before. Moreover, when the teacher does this important activity from the lesson plan, gives the students the opportunity to interact with each other and that is good because they can demonstrate participation in the class working as a group.

Those warm-ups can be used in an intermediate level in which students know vocabulary or they just want to practice about what the teacher is giving in the class. On the other hand, I can say that I really liked doing this piece of the class because I could see the participation of all my classmates and the way that they catched the idea for this activity. So, it was a great experience for me to perform as a presenter because I used gestures and different things about classroom managment. I know that I was nervous, but I always try to do my best in every presentation. I could have given the instructions in a different way, so for the next activity I will try to do it better.

Using a warm-up at the beginning of the class is really useful because as I mentioned before it helps students to feel comfortable at the moment they are going to receive the class. They can feel relaxed and have some fun before going to the topic. It is a good way for having a nice class.

To sum up, it is really important to have a warm-up in the class because in that way the teacher can perceive different abilities from the students, and if they can work as a group in the classroom. Nothing can be learned if the students are tense, so the teacher has to have different tools in order to catch the attention of the students.
